Professor David E. Mainwaring

 

David E. Mainwaring holds a PhD from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London in physical chemistry specializing in the surface science of high interfacial materials. He was the initial Professor of Chemistry at both Swinburne University and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology where he was Research Dean of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology.

Upon retirement he is research professor at Swinburne University and an Associate of the RMIT Design Institute. His principle interests remain in developing novel functionality of surface nano-architecture. In design, he has worked with the Australian Institute of Sport, Olympic athletes and the US Olympic ski athletes. He and his students have developed long lasting phosphorescent particles suitable for incorporation as illuminating pigments in coatings and fibres. He has more than 130 research journal publications in the area of physical chemistry and materials together with numerous patents.
